Beachview Residence
Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Year: 2026
Project Overview:
The objective of this renovation was to create a fully reimagined bathroom that seamlessly supports aging in place while offering highly functional, intuitive storage solutions. The elements together create a bathroom that is both timeless and adaptable, designed to support the client now and well into the future.
By converting the existing tub into a walk‑in shower, the design establishes clear, unobstructed access and a more open spatial experience. Future accessibility needs were thoughtfully anticipated through the integration of easy‑to‑grasp pull hardware, an ergonomic toilet, and strategic wall reinforcement to accommodate grab bars should they be required.
Storage was carefully maximized throughout the space. A recessed shower niche, a full‑width back ledge, and a well‑organized vanity with deep drawers and open shelving ensure that everyday essentials are easily accessible without visual clutter.
Design Inspiration + Palette:
Situated within Toronto’s Beaches community and oriented toward views of Woodbine Beach, the aesthetic draws directly from its surroundings. The design is inspired by the warmth of the sun, the fluid movement of water, and the subtle textures of sand. A fresh, calming palette was selected to promote comfort and serenity, while layered finishes add depth and visual interest.
To elevate the space with a sense of quiet luxury, the scheme incorporates the soft tones and gentle sheen of sea pearls. Pale lavender and muted purple hues subtly reflect light, adding a refined, coastal elegance without overwhelming the space.
Materiality + Details:
Guided by the belief that good design should feel effortless; even when every detail has been carefully considered, the renovation balances warm, natural materials with clean geometry to create a bathroom that feels calm, functional, and personal. A soft wood vanity serves as a grounding element, complemented by meaningful personal touches such as the client’s reused vanity mirror and a rope towel ladder.
Tile was used intentionally to introduce rhythm and movement. An organic‑patterned floor tile provides texture underfoot while maintaining visual cohesion. In the shower, vertically installed glazed ceramic tile adds refinement, while a marble herringbone accent introduces depth and understated luxury.
Planning + Coordination
Our process was defined by careful coordination, which was key to achieving a calm, resolved final space. Detailed drawings and thorough specifications allowed every element, from the alignment of shower fixtures and recessed niches to tile transitions, custom vanity proportions, and integrated ledges to be fully coordinated before construction began. This clarity ensured the design translated seamlessly on site, where materials, details, and craftsmanship come together with precision.
“I had the pleasure of working with Hatched Plan Studio (HPS) on my bathroom renovation project. It was a fabulous experience from inception to completion. Emma and Ange took the time to learn my preferences and style, developing a design that felt completely me. I loved the renderings and was thrilled that they had read me so well. Throughout the demolition and construction phases, HPS provided outstanding project management, coordinating with the suppliers and contractors and actively communicating with me. Home renovations have the potential to be stressful, but with HPS, the project unfolded seamlessly and I felt fully informed and confident every step of the way. The result is the bathroom of my dreams - it is beautiful, thoughtful, and a true reflection of me! I cannot recommend Hatched Plan Studio highly enough for anyone considering a design project.”
